IAB News Meeting of the Board on February 24, 2011 A meeting of the CEE Industry Advisory Board (IAB) concentrated on the discussion of the departmental operation and initiatives in moving the Department forward. Dr. Gucunski, the Department Chair, provided an update on the recent major developments and presented the long-term vision for the Department. Dr. Najm, the CEE Undergraduate Director, discussed the ABET accreditation process, and the Department’s preparations for the review which will occur in 2012. He emphasized the importance of active interaction between the Department and IAB. Dr. Healey, the IAB Chairman, reported on the IAB activities since the last meeting. The IAB Steering Committee developed a plan focused on construction management and sustainability as areas to be addressed by the Department. Investment into Construction Management was emphasized given the demand expressed by the industry due to the integrated skill set required for current day project delivery systems. Sustainability was recommended as a future area of emphasis due to the emergence of this interdisciplinary field which addresses the development of technologies, design concepts, materials, construction methods and asset management systems to achieve environmental, social and economic benefits throughout the life cycle of projects.
