Summary

The authors of this paper have developed a concept of undercover ice-transport capacity by analogy to bed sediment transport; this is the first systematic analysis ever conducted. The discusser wishes to make two comments regarding the analysis.

  1. No distinction is necessary between the bed load transport formulas for low-density and high-density sediments in developing unercover ice-transport capacity
  2. Shear stress on the underside of the jam was probably overestimated by the authors
